Acupuncture Is An Effective Safe Adjunctive Therapy For Osteoarthritis In The Knee By Complementary Medicine Program, University of Maryland School of Medicine (Ref. Berman, Rheumatology 1999; 38:346-54.)
Methods
: A randomized and controlled trial. 73 patients randomized into standard care (control) & standard care plus acupuncture Acupuncture protocol: electrical acupuncture twice per week for 8 weeks. 9 needles were applied for 20 min. Outcome assessment: Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Indexd (WOMAC)
Results:
acupuncture group had a statistically significant decrease in WOMAC score and in Lequesne Scale.
